Merve Buyuksarac, 27, was given a 14-month suspended sentence if she does not reoffend within the next five years, according to BBC. If she offends again, she could face jail time.
She denied insulting the president, according to BBC, and her lawyer said he would file a formal objection and appeal to a higher court.
Buyuksarac was crowned Miss Turkey in 2006. In 2015, she was detained for sharing a satirical poem on her Instagram account a year earlier that prosecutors said was insulting to Erdogan– the prime minister at the time.
