Searching for Missing Boater, August 22, 2016

Emergency crews from Iowa and Missouri found the body of an Alexandria, Missouri man reported missing Sunday near Alexandria. The Clark County Sheriff’s office reported that the body of 69 year old, Lewis Boggs, of Alexandria was found, just south of Alexandria.

The body was found early Monday evening, not far from where officials found Bogg’s boat Sunday evening, near the former Purple Cow Bar and Restaurant. Rescue crews arrived soon afterwards and started looking for Boggs. Keokuk Fire Department responded to a call from the Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps requesting help to locate a missing boater.

According to the department, a rescue boat was launched at the Southside Boat ramps and a pair of firefighters searched along the shoreline then started looking again Monday morning. The Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps responded earlier Sunday morning.

Boggs and his wife were boating on the river and then Boggs dropped his wife off at the docks in Alexandria and then went up stream to his cabin.  According to the department, a rescue boat was launched at the Southside Boat ramps and a pair of firefighters searched along the shoreline then started looking again Monday.

Assisting at the scene were the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri State Water Patrol, Keokuk Fire Department, Keokuk Volunteer Emergency Corps and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

This marks the third boating accident this summer around Keokuk.
