Authorities have reported a pair of accidents over the last 24 hours. The Hancock County Sheriff’s office are investigating a single vehicle accident Friday morning on the Warsaw bottoms road near Warsaw.
According to Hancock County Sheriff, Scott Bentzinger, a vehicle was traveling on the bottom road when the vehicle hydroplaned causing it to leave the roadway with the vehicle rolling over and landing upright in a ditch. The driver of the vehicle is unknown at this time. Crews had the roadway blocked trying to get the car out of the ditch.
The second accident occurred on Thursday at the intersection of Highway 61 and 16 near Wever. According to the Lee County Sheriff’s office a vehicle driven by 84 year old Wayne Strait of Keosauqua was traveling east on Highway 16.
Strait was stopping at a stop sign when he was struck in the rear by a vehicle driven by 44 year old Brad Nichols of Eldridge, Iowa. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Nichols was not injured. Strait and a passenger 81 year old Myrtle Strait of Keosauqua were seriously injured and taken to Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Wayne Strait was then transferred to University Hospital in Iowa city.
Another accident was reported in Lee County on 255th street.
