A turnover for a touchdown and two field goals in the second quarter was all the Keokuk Chiefs needed Friday night in a 12 to 7 victory over the Central Lee Hawks.

After a scoreless first quarter the Chiefs drive stalled and Austin West kicked a 42 yard field goal with 9:15 left in the first quarter to make it 3 to 0 Chiefs. Then the Hawks drove down the field and scored the only offensive touchdown of the game on an 18 yard run by running back, Zach Schulte with Rick Galle kicking the extra point.

It was 7 to 3 Central Lee with 5:08 left in the half but the Chiefs then scored after a Central Lee fumble was picked up by running back Andrew Patterson who ran 6 yards for the touchdown after the missed extra point made it 9 to 7 chiefs with 1:56 left in the half.

Then the Chiefs got the ball back with 28 seconds and drove the ball down the field. After another Central Lee penalty with no time remaining, Austin West kicked a 44 yard field goal as time expired to make it 12 to 7 chiefs at the half. The second half had several scoring chances for both teams but no scoring, so the Chiefs win at 12 to 7.

The Chiefs Quarterback Damon Wolter was 8 for 12 for 98 yards and a couple of interceptions. The Chiefs had 90 yards rushing for a total of 188 yards of offense led by Andrew Patterson with 8 carries for 64 yards. Adam Rooney ran for 94 yards on 9 carries for the Hawks who had all 204 yards on the ground. The Chiefs are now 1 and 0 on the season and will travel to Chariton to take on the Chargers who are 0-1 after losing Friday to Knoxville 34-0.

Central Lee is now 0-1 and will host Fort Madison who lost Friday night to Davis County 27 to 20. Other action in Hamilton, the West Hancock Titans opened their season with a 44 to 6 win over Putnam County. The Titans lead off with a run by Quarterback Bryce Buckert. Then after Putnam County scored to make it 8 to 6 the Titans scored the next 36 points for the win. The Titans are 1-0 and will face Martinsville Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm at Sacred Heart Griffen High School in Springfield. The Midgets are 0-2.

Other scores, The Illini West Chargers played the first game in the Prairieland Conference and beat Monmouth United 38 to 24 in a crossover game involving the Lincoln Trail Conference and will host Mercer County on Friday night and Clark County dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 41 to 0 loss at home to Centralia. The Indians travel to Macon on Friday
