A Keokuk boy instigated a plan of action this weekend to help clean up the city. 10 year old Conrad Kirchner was walking down 7th street in West Keokuk and saw a giant tree branch on the street in front of him, which made him think about finding ways to clean up the community.

Conrad and his mother, Jana, got the got the idea with the sidewalk not looking good, to get help to clear out overgrown grass, cut back tree branches and picking up trash. At one time residents used to the walk the busy streets because no one was cleaning the sidewalks.

The cleanup also helps the City of Keokuk because money wise the city cannot afford to do these maintenance projects and the work of volunteers helps make the city a better place to live.
