Keokuk Sophomore Honored as Outstanding Speech Performer

A Keokuk High School student was recognized by the Iowa High School Speech Association as an outstanding performer. Sophomore Austin Derr received the commendation for his performance in the category of Spontaneous speaking in the state competition which was held in Vinton, Iowa. The young orator explained how this particular category of speech competition is scored. Austin had 3 minutes to prepare a speech about the effects of TV advertising on consumers and amazingly he spoke eloquently right up to the buzzer. As a result of his commendation Austin will be speaking at the 39th Annual All-State Festival of Individual Events at the University of Northern Iowa on March 27th.
