Chiefs Baseball Season Ends at Fairfield

Despite an enthusiastic crowd in tow, the Keokuk Chiefs baseball team saw their magic runout Monday night in the District Championship game in Fairfield. Dozens of Keokuk faithful made the one hour trek to Fairfield to attend the battle between the Chiefs and the Fairfield Trojans, but the home team would take the wind out of the Chiefs sails early and often as the Chiefs fell 9 to 4. After the Chiefs went down in order in the 1st, Trojan cleanup hitter Cam Baumann came to the plate with two aboard in the bottom half.

The senior Iowa Hawkeye commit’s blast gave the Trojans the lead early and they would never look back building the lead to 9 zero in the 5th inning. Junior pitcher Jake Jones fought hard but the Trojans found patches of grasses with several soft hits to knock Jones from the game in the third. The Chiefs were led at the plate by sophomore Dalton Boecker who went 3 for 4 with a run while Junior Bryce Miller went 2 for 4 as he finished the district tournament 5 for 7 with 4 rbis. The loss ends the Chiefs season with a 15 and 26 record.
