Keokuk Chiefs Head softball coach Merle Jones is looking to double down on coaching duties. It was announced over the weekend that Jones had accepted the head softball coaching job at John Wood community college in Quincy, Illinois. Keokuk activities director Zach Summers explained Monday that Jones is planning to continue to coach the Chiefs as John Wood plays their softball season during the spring. In 2017 John Wood’s season came to an end on May 6th as they lost to Parkland College in the regional tournament. Keokuk’s high school softball season began on May 23rd with a single game at Durant. John Wood typically travels extensively throughout the spring and at this time it is unclear if that will affect Merle Jones’s work as the dean of students at Keokuk high School.
