If Iowa Hawkeyes head football coach Kirk Ferentz knows who will have the first run at the starting quarterback position, he surely isn’t letting anyone know. At the Big Ten Media Days that took place Monday and Tuesday, Ferentz, who is entering his 19th year at the helm for Iowa, answered a number of questions pertaining to the quarterback position. CJ Beathard, who started for the Hawkeyes in each of the last 2 years, graduated and was drafted in the 3rd round by the San Francisco forty niners in the NFL draft in June. Much ado was made about the fact that sophomore Nathan Stanley’s name was listed above that of Junior Tyler Wiegers in the media day depth chart. Ferentz implored media personnel in Chicago not to read into which name was listed first. According to Ferentz, both quarterbacks will start off on even terms and the starting job will have to be earned before the season starts September 2nd when the Hawkeyes host the Wyoming Cowboys.
