Rep. Kearns Continues to Advocate for Unions, Working People

Local Keokuk resident and Iowa House representative Jerry Kearns was honored recently for his election to the Iowa Federation of Labor Hall of Fame. Kearns spoke Monday morning about how continues to advocate for organized labor causes at the state legislature.

Kearns felt that the republican majority cut back many bargaining rights pertaining to public employees but he feels that 2018 will be a big year for the state when the house reconvenes in January. Kearns feels that a special legislative session was needed to address an issue which could be a big concern in the upcoming year.

Kearns stated that another issue that could be a focal topic during the upcoming 2018 legislative session will be tax reform which he has stated in the past is a direct cause of some of the state’s budget issues.
