Robert “Bob” Clay Vass, 94, of Adrian, Illinois, passed away at 8:20 am on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at River Valley Place in Ft. Madison.
Bob was born on January 29, 1930, in Adrian, Illinois. He was the son of Clarence and Essie (Beckett) Vass. He graduated from Colusa High School. On November 9, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Deere in Ft. Madison. Shortly after, Bob served 2 years in the U.S. Marine core in the tank division from 1951-1953. Bob spent most of his life farming. He shelled corn all over Hancock County. He also spent time driving a semi. Bob loved to farm, fish, ride his motorcycle, and dance with his wife. He was a devoted member of the Colusa Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his 3 children; Roger (Pauline) Vass of Nauvoo, IL, and Debby (Mike Boyer) Vass of Dallas City, IL, and Mike Vass of Bowen, IL; 11 grandkids, 20 great grandkids, and 2 great great grankids; and good friend, Gary Watznauer of West Point, IA.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Vass, his 4 children, Rodney, Randy, Kathy, and Stephanie and 1 grandson, Jeffrey Hale.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial and military honors to follow at Harris Cemetery in Dallas City. A visitation will be held from 9 am until the time of the service. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is handling arrangements.
