Hollis Loren Dean

Hollis “Hod” Loren Dean, 76, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, surrounded by his family at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

Hollis was born on June 27, 1948, in Keokuk, Iowa. He was the son of Harley and Margy (Sherman) Dean. Hollis graduated from Carthage High School and began working at Bill’s grocery store and then later a salesman for Nabisco where he spent many years. On July 1st, 1967, Hollis was united in marriage to Alice Conn in Bowen, Illinois. Hollis went on to work as the advertising manager for the Journal Pilot. He was very involved in the Lions Club where he served as the president for a few years. He enjoyed playing golf and going to Cardinal games with his family. Hollis loved his music. You could always count on music playing somewhere when Hollis was around.

Hollis is survived by his wife, Alice Dean, of Carthage, IL; his two daughters, Dee Dee (Mark) Kahs of Quincy, IL, and Holly Bruns of Carthage, IL; his grandchildren, Tyler Bruns of Carthage, IL, Kyle (Kelsy) Kahs of Quincy, IL, Luke Kahs of St. Louis, MO, Erik Kahs of Arlington, VA; his great granddaughter, Kylah Kahs; his sister, Judy Gutting of Pheonix, AZ; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Dean, and his niece Stephy Dean.

A funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Carthage with burial to follow at Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 pm – 7 pm on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be made out to the Carthage Golf Course, First Christian Church, or Memorial Hospital Foundation. Printy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
