Joyia Faye Hoyt, 84, of Carthage, Illinois, passed away early on Monday, November 25, 2024, at The Elms in Macomb.
Joyia was born in Tri-Cities, Illinois, on December 22, 1939. She was the daughter of Adron Akers and Florence (Vogler) Akers. Joyia graduated from Plymouth High School. On November 5, 1960, Joyia was united in marriage to Duane Hoyt in Keokuk, IA, at the First Christian Church. Joyia spent over 20 years working for Methode in Carthage. She enjoyed watching car races with her husband. Joyia loved horses and would go riding whenever she could when she was young. She enjoyed reading Westerns and babysitting the great nieces and nephew, who called her JoJo. She loved her French poodle, Mr. French. Joyia never met a stranger.
Joyia is survived by her husband, Duane Hoyt, of Carthage, Il; her brother, Calvin (Dottie) Akers of Iowa; her sister, Bonnie (Keith) Mayall of Plymouth, Il; her brother- in-law, Dale Thomas of Lomax, Il; her sister-in-law, Rita Akers of Littleton, Il; her nieces, Shannon (Kent) McElroy of Carthage, Il, Trish (Brian) Purdum of Macomb, Il, Sherry and Vickie Akers of NC, Andrea Akers of NC, Kimberly Payne of KY, Kris Stahler of FL and Londa Cunningham; her nephews, Yohn (Georgia) Mayall of Plymouth, Il, Heath (Kathy) Thomas of WI, Lonnie Akers of Tennessee, Il, Lance (Karen) Akers of GA, two special great-nieces, Megan (Doug) McCoy and Carmen McElroy, and a great-nephew Devin (Kimberly) McElroy; and a great great-nephew Waylon McCoy. She also had many more nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Gary Akers, Rachel Thomas, and Eldon Dean Akers.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Macomb, Illinois. Memorials may be made out to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Printy Funeral home is handling arrangements.
