Robert D. McVeigh

Robert D. McVeigh, 67, passed away at 1:15 PM, Sunday, November 23, 2025, at his home in Carthage, surrounded by his children.

Robert was born December 16, 1957, the son of Robert L. and Louise (Cook) McVeigh. He was united in marriage to Sherry Murray on November 17, 1988, in Burnside, Illinois. She preceded him in death in 2017. Bob had worked at BTR in Keokuk for ten years. He was the custodian for Memorial Hospital in Carthage and later for Illini West High School in Carthage where he retired in 2022 after fourteen years of service. Bob had also worked as an EMT for the ambulance service in Carthage. He was an avid Bingo player traveling with his Bingo crew and especially enjoyed his VFW Bingo nights.

Bob is survived by three children, Jennifer (Terry) Taylor of Carthage, Christopher (Erin) McVeigh of Loves Park, IL, and Rachael (Trevor) McVeigh of Cottage Grove, WI, grandchildren, Zacariah (Kailyn) Taylor, Dakora (Dalton) Terry, Brezlynn Taylor and Braxton Bane; great grandchildren, Dorothy Taylor, Noveah Terry, Kaizen Terry and Naomi Taylor; siblings, Rosalie (Raymond) Bruns of Labelle, MO, Jean (Jim) Richardson of Hamilton, Betty Hymes of Hamilton Ray Agnew of Carthage, and MaryAnn Sorenson of Boulder City, NV, his dog, Benji; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Patty Parish, Philip Agnew, Karen Sue Agnew, Kenneth Agnew, Leroy Agnew and Jack Agnew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Friday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. Memorials may be directed to Hearts of Hancock animal shelter in Carthage. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
