Charles “Charlie” Everingham

Charles Edward “Charlie” Everingham, of Keokuk, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Charlie was born January 27, 1948, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of John Hamilton and Wilma Belle (Rupe) Everingham. On June 1, 1968, he was united in marriage to Christine Hampe in Nauvoo, Illinois, and together they built a loving life for more than five decades.

Charlie graduated from Fort Madison High School with the Class of 1966 and went on to attend the University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Geology. He spent time conducting geological exploration in Canada and other locations before returning to continue his education. He later earned a master’s degree in education and dedicated 30 years to teaching science at Keokuk High School. He retired in 2007, and countless students remembered him fondly as “Mr. E.”

A devoted Hawkeye fan, Charlie also loved the river and anything connected to it—boating, fishing, kayaking, or simply sitting along the shoreline. He was a longtime member of both the Keokuk Yacht Club and the Southside Boat Club. He also enjoyed woodworking and restoring antique pieces, hobbies that showcased his skill and appreciation for craftsmanship.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Christine Everingham; his daughter, Rebecca Pinkerton of Springfield, Missouri; two grandchildren, Tanner (Rachel) Holman and Ty Pinkerton; and one great-granddaughter, Ella Holman. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy McLure of Taylorville, Illinois, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Everingham.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services.

Memorials may be made to Lee County Conservation or the Keokuk Community School Foundation and may be mailed to the Vigen Memorial Home 1328 Concert, Keokuk, Iowa 52632.
