Carolyn M. Clark, 87, of Carthage, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.
Carolyn was born June 21, 1938, the daughter of Vernon and Gladys (Kirkpatrick) Mardis in Keokuk, Iowa. She graduated from Keokuk High School. On July 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to Charles (Chuck) E. Clark in Carthage. Whether they were canning pickles, playing softball, or going on one of many fishing trips with family and friends, Carolyn and Chuck enjoyed their life together.
Carolyn worked in registrations at the front desk for many years at Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1992. Following her retirement, she was an avid card player, she enjoyed monthly lunch dates with friends, weekly shopping trips to Macomb (if there was a bargain to be found, Carolyn would find it), and in her later years, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Commodities. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Jerry (Linda) Clark of Carthage, Lenny Clark of Carthage and Angela (Tom) Toops of St. Francisville, Missouri; grandchildren, Brandi (Jerad) Alvis, Ryan (Steffie) Toops, Jeremy (Billie) Layman, and Jared (KaDee) Shutwell; numerous great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; a sister, Barbara (Greg) Shaffer of Sherrard, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Marilyn Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; a son, Darin Clark; and a nephew, Ronnie Roskamp.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 29th, 2026 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home at 11:00. Memorials can be made to St. Jude’s, First Christian Church in Carthage, or HUGS.
