Richard Burgess, Sr.
Richard Burgess, Sr., 70 of Wayland, MO passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
He was born May 11, 1955 in Keokuk, IA the son of Elmer and Maxine Thompson Burgess. Richard graduated from Clark County High School with the class of 1973.
Richard was employed by Keokuk Steel Castings for thirty years, until his retirement in 2004.
Richard enjoyed being outdoors, especially when he could spend time fishing. He also loved hunting for little treasures and took simple pleasure in going junking.
He is survived by one daughter, Christine Burgess of Kahoka, MO, two sons, Richard Burgess, Jr. of Kirksville, MO and Charles Burgess of Wayland, MO, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six siblings, Dan Burgess (Linda), Rick Burgess (Sue), Sally Bennett, Annie Vermeesch, Butch Burgess and Mary McGee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Spike Burgess, Elmer Burgess, John Burgess and Dan Burgess.
A gathering of remembrance will be held at a later date.
