Lawrence A. “Larry” Sallen

Lawrence A. “Larry” Sallen, 80, of Fort Madson, IA, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at his home. He was born on January 18, 1946 in Fort Madison, IA to Aloysious & Evelyn Lewis Sallen. He married Sherrill Sue Rings on April 21, 1978 in Fort Madison, IA. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam war from 1966 to 1970. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and RSVP in Fort Madison.

Larry is survived by: his wife: Sherrill Sallen of Fort Madison, IA; 2-sons: David Long of Des Moines, IA & Michael (Cindy) Long of Ankeny, IA; 11-grandchildren & 19-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 1-son: Steve Long, 1-daughter: Renee Smith, 2-grandchildren, 2-sisters & 1-brother.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Sacred Heart Church. The funeral mass will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Holy Family Parish.
