Loretta J. Messerschmitt, 79, of Fort Madson, IA, passed away at 12:09 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Birkwood Village in Fort Madison. She was born on May 24, 1946 in Fort Madison, IA to Clarence “Kie” & Evelyn Corns Doty. She married Larry Messerschmitt and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed music and dancing.

Loretta is survived by: 3-Children: Robin DeWitt of Eagle Grove, IA, Ray DeWitt of Columbus Junction, IA & Christina Schlicher of Primrose, IA; 8-grandchildren; 9-siblings: Harold Doty of Fort Madison, IA, Kenny Brownlee of Ottumwa, IA, Danny (Karen) Brownlee of Burlington, IA, Donna (Jim) Glidewell of Fort Madison, IA, Kathy (Jim) Nichols of Fort Madison, IA, Ron (Mona) Doty of Burlington, IA, Anita (Larry) Lee of Fort Madison, IA, Kay (Larry) Poggemiller of Augusta, IA & Connie (Chuck) Borschel of Beaverdale, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
