Jack Rogers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud Keokuk native, passed away at the age of 78 on May 16th, 2026. Born on October 22, 1947, Jack was a man whose life was defined by his love of family, his passion for golf, and his unwavering commitment to the community his family had called home for four generations, a legacy Jack carried with great pride. Jack is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Susan Rogers; his son, Jonathan Rogers (Gina); his daughter, Andrea Rogers Correa (Ivan); his grandchildren, Jack Rogers and Wilhelmina Rogers; his sister, Ann Wertz (George) and his cousin Doug Rogers (Mary). He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and John Rogers.
Jack graduated from Keokuk High School in 1966. In high school, Jack was a member of the 1966 state championship golf team. Jack earned a scholarship to play golf at the University of Kansas. He was a four-year golf letterman and his name is permanently honored on a brick outside the legendary Allen Fieldhouse with his teammate and life-long friend George Burgland. Jack graduated from the University of Kansas in 1970, where he earned a degree in Communications and Public Relations. Jack and Susan were united in marriage in 1971, and returned to Keokuk to build a life together rooted in family and community.
After college, Jack joined his father, John, at Hubinger’s in Keokuk, where John had worked in management and personnel. Jack worked alongside his father from 1973 to 1978 before accepting a sales position with Westvaco, where he spent a distinguished career selling activated carbon to corn processing plants across the country. He also proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves in Iowa. Jack retired at the age of 62.
In retirement, Jack coached the Keokuk High School golf team, served on the Keokuk Library Board, the Keokuk Area Foundation Board, and the YMCA Board and was a member of The Lions Club and The Elks Club. He was instrumental in the renovation of both the Keokuk Library Park and the Keokuk YMCA.
Jack continued to cheer on KU golf and basketball throughout his life. He helped construct a new golf practice facility at KU and enjoyed attending KU NCAA March Madness basketball games with his family. He also enjoyed volunteering at professional golf tournaments with Susan, Andrea, and Annie, including the PGA Championship at Valhalla, where he was a hole captain, and a volunteer the 2008 Ryder Cup. Every year, he played the Masters ticket lottery and attended the Masters numerous times. His final trip to the Masters was in 2015 with his son Jonathan who won an all expenses paid trip. The duo lived large with a private driver and access to VIP Masters House. For his 70th birthday he went to St. Andrews with his family, and played the Old Course, in true Scottish fashion, in a fifty-mile-an-hour wind. The battle that day included a match with his ten-year-old grandson Jack.
On the golf course during his life, Jack won the Keokuk City Golf Tournament an impressive ten times and was a familiar and beloved presence in the men’s games at the former Keokuk Country Club and the Elks. Those who played alongside him knew well his favorite saying: “Fairways and Greens.” And when someone asked Jack if he needed anything, he would flash a smile and answer without hesitation — “Time and money.”
Jack Rogers was a man who made every fairway better, every room warmer, and the Keokuk community stronger.
A family burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Keokuk Public Library, Keokuk High School golf team or the Keokuk YMCA in Jack’s memory.
DeJong-Printy Funeral Home of Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.
