Erma Jean Hummel, 85, formerly of Montrose, IA, passed away on July 5, 2026 at MercyOne Genesis Hospital in Silvis, IL
Erma was born on October 14, 1940, in Alexandria, Missouri, the daughter of Herman and Ruth (Mason) Renner. She graduated from Clark County High School.
On February 15, 1958, she was united in marriage Frederick (Fred) Charles Hummel in Keokuk, IA. They were married fifty-one years before his passing in 2009.
She was employed at Shaeffer Pen before becoming a full-time homemaker and devoting her time to raising her family.
Erma was a member of the Montrose Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Stacey (Michelle) of Lowell, Iowa; her daughter, Julia (Joe) of Moline, Illinois; five grandchildren, Nicole, Jordan, Micah, Colby, and Mackenzie; and ten great-grandchildren.
n addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Brenda; and her sister, Lucille Soper.
Erma loved her house on the Mississippi River which allowed her to enjoy all kinds of wildlife and birds. She crocheted, loved puzzles and word searches, was a great cook and was a kind and patient soul.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial will follow at the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
