The Keokuk Police Department arrested Matthew Cameron Crews, age 28 of Keokuk, on October 12th, 2018 at 4:33 p.m., in the 1200 block of Exchange. Matthew Crews is charged with Attempted Murder, Burglary 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, and two counts of Animal Abuse.  He was taken to the Lee County Correctional Center.

On October 16, 2018 at 3:13 p.m., the Keokuk Police Department arrested Drake Dalton Woods, age 25 of rural Keokuk, in the 3400 block of 276th Ave. Drake Woods is charged with Aiding and Abetting Robbery 1st Degree and, Aiding and Abetting Burglary 1st Degree. He was taken to the Lee County Correctional Center.

The arrest of Crews and Woods stems from an investigation into a shooting that happened at 300 Belknap Place, on January 7th, 2016 at around 1:00 a.m. Officers found a 31-year-old male and two dogs with gunshot wounds at the scene.

Assisting the Keokuk Police Department in the investigation was the Lee County Attorney’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Lee County Narcotics Task Force, Hamilton Police Department and, Keokuk Animal Services.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
