Aiden Orion Washburn, age 9, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
He was born December 10, 2015, in Iowa City, IA, the son of Ryan and Josie O’Donnell Washburn.
Aiden was a fourth-grade student at Central Lee Elementary School in Donnellson, IA, where his bright smile and kind heart made every day better for those around him.
Aiden was a gentle and joyful soul, full of curiosity and laughter. He had a fun spirit that lit up every room he entered. His Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World was a dream come true, and he loved sharing his thoughts and laughter through his YouTube channel, “Aiden’s Funny Videos”. A proud Kid Captain for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Aiden cheered for his team with all his heart. He loved his large collection of tennis shoes, which were one of his many treasures.
He adored playing with his little brother, collecting his beloved stuffies, and exploring the beach and ocean life—especially sharks. Whether boating with his family, swimming, going on sleepovers, traveling, or just enjoying a trip to get a new toy, Aiden embraced life with wonder and joy.
He is survived by his parents, Ryan and Josie Washburn of Keokuk, his little brother, Crew, grandparents, Lori and Josh Newberry, grandmother, Monica O’Donnell, grandparents, Kenny and Wendy O’Donnell and many aunts and uncles, cousins and great grandparents.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Patricia O’Donnell, great-grandfather, Dennis Case, great-grandmother, Linda Barker and cousin, Brody Newberry.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Friday, November 14 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Shelby Whitney officiating.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Friday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to the Pediatric Heart Association, University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital or to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Aiden’s laughter, love, and light will always be part of us. He will be forever smiling, forever loved, forever in our hearts.
