Alfred Louis “Bud” Wear, 85, of Carthage, IL, passed away early on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at his home in Carthage.
Bud was born on December 2, 1940, in rural Carthage. He was the son of Vernon and Roberta (Render) Wear. Bud graduated from Carthage High School in May of 1958. He excelled in basketball as he was the captain and earned all-state honors. Bud then went on to serve in the US Navy from 1960-1964. On October 29, 1966, Bud was united in marriage to Linda Gavillet. Bud spent most of his career as the street supervisor for the city of Carthage. He retired in June of 2006. Bud loved to play basketball even after high school. He then took up golf and became a regular at the Carthage golf course playing any chance he could.
Bud is survived by his wife, Linda Wear, of Carthage, IL; his children, Tonja Vance, Roberta (Bobbi) Wear, and Shelli Sawyer; his grandchildren, Cyle (Courtney) Vance, Terra Rose, Kendall Hall, Sidnee Sawyer, and McKenzie Hall; his great grandchildren, Norah and Chloe Vance; and his sister, Kay Sumner.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sons in law, Kent Sawyer, and Brian Vance, and his siblings, Bill Wear, Bob Wear, Vernon Wear Jr, Mary Tobias, Fran Artman, Donna Strieker, and Alice Dierker.
No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Carthage Golf Club or the Hancock County Humane Society. Printy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
