Planting advances in Minnesota, but remains behind usual pace

Corn planting is nearly complete in Minnesota. USDA’s latest weekly crop report says at 98 percent, this year’s pace trails 2021 by more than two weeks and the five-year average by eight days. The USDA says planting is winding down in South Dakota. Ninety-seven percent of the state’s corn crop is planted, compared to 100% last year. Eighty-five percent of the crop has emerged. Ninety-three percent of soybeans are planted, compared to the five-year-average of 89 percent. Fifty-five percent of the crop has emerged. Southern Wisconsin weather slows fieldwork

Weather conditions impacted some fieldwork for some Wisconsin farmers last week. USDA reporters say farmers in the northern part of the state had drier conditions and made more progress with planting.  Some southern Wisconsin regions had heavy rains, slowing progress. Winter wheat harvest has gotten underway across the Kansas. The latest crop progress and condition report says two percent of the crop is in with 26 percent rated good-to-excellent. Corn is in 58 percent good-to-excellent shape with 83 percent of the crop up. Soybeans are rated 62 percent good-to-excellent with 55 percent emerged.
