USDA Seeks Members for Federal Advisory Committee for Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production

WASHINGTON, May 15, 2023 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking nominations for four positions on the Federal Advisory Committee for Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production. Nominations will be open to public from May 15, 2023, to July 15, 2023. The 12-member Committee, which first convened in March 2022, is part of USDA’s efforts to increase support for urban agriculture and innovative production.

Tennessee crops: 40% soybeans and 88% corn planted

Tennessee farmers continue to benefit from weather, as planting progress remains ahead of the average pace. Planting ahead of normal in Kansas

Planting continued to advance in Kansas last week. USDA’s latest crop report says with more than four days suitable for fieldwork, corn is now 61 percent planted.  That’s slightly ahead of last year’s 58 percent and very close to the five-year average of 62 percent. Sugarbeets see tremendous progress

Farmers finally had a break in the weather and more than five days ideal for fieldwork last week. Nebraska corn and soybean planting ahead of normal

Planting continues to outpace five-year averages in Nebraska. USDA’s latest weekly crop progress report says corn is 76 percent planted compared to 59 percent a year ago and 71 percent on average. Soybean planting is 62 percent complete, well ahead of last year’s 42 percent and 49 percent normally. Wheat, corn find support as Black Sea grain deal nears expiration

Soybeans were able to shake off some of the pressure from Friday’s report and end the day mostly higher.  The USDA is projecting a record crop of 4.51 billion bushels.  There was also some support from strength in soybean oil and early Monday, the USDA announced a sale to Poland for the 2022/23 marketing year of 100,000 metric tons of soybean meal.
