The new president of Minnesota FFA plans to listen well in helping the organization grow. Katelyn Ketchum of the Lewiston-Altura FFA Chapter says one of her strengths is being a good listener. “I want to see where everyone else is at and really get my thoughts together before sharing, so I feel like my intention to listen means everyone else is going to help me throughout this year. Agronomist encourages farmers to ‘check three boxes’ when it’s time to plant

Beck’s agronomist Travis Coleman says there are several things for growers to keep in mind as planting picks up. “I really want growers to think about making sure they’re checking three boxes when they go to the fields or they’re getting ready to plant. Farmland market ceiling and floor coming into focus

A certified appraiser suggests the farmland market is evening out. Aaron Stark with Compeer Financial says prices might have peaked, but the floor is solid. “Historically looking at farmland, that’s always been a good, safe bet against a lot of factors (like) inflation and all the other factors that are prevalent in the market right now.” He tells Brownfield there’s security in farmland. “You know the old saying that they’re […]

A slow and steady approach for spring planting

An agronomist from central Minnesota says planting slowly in the right soil conditions is better than planting quickly in mud. Peterson Farms Seed Lead Agronomist Rick Swenson tells Brownfield it’s all about giving the crop a good start, which means farmers may have to wait a few weeks before planting. “To mud it in, you’re still costing yourself half of your yield at times. Make sure conditions are right, especially […]
