Alfalfa fields of green in eastern Iowa

Alfalfa is taking off in eastern Iowa. CONAB increases soybean crop forecast

Crop experts in South America are projecting record corn and soybean production for Brazil.  CONAB, the Brazilian equivalent to the USDA, has soybean production estimated at 153.6 million tons, an increase from the March guess.  The projected increase comes from a rise in acres and better yields. USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for Mississippi Disaster Areas

WASHINGTON, April 13, 2023 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that low-income Mississippi residents in six counties (Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, Montgomery, Panola, and Sharkey) due to the impact of severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes that began on March 24, 2023, could be eligible for a helping hand from the USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP).

Soybeans shine in weekly export sales report

Soybeans were the only bright spot in the latest Export Sales report from the USDA.  Sales of 364,500 MT were up noticeably on the week, and up 17 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were primarily for the Netherlands, unknown destinations (which typically flips to China), Japan, Spain, and Indonesia.  There were slight reductions for Mexico.
