Central Lee Hawks girls basketball sophomore Mya Merschman was named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-State Second Team earlier this week.

She led the team in scoring at 18.2 points per game, nearly seven points higher per game higher than as a freshman, while retaining her shooting efficiency at 51.2% from the field and a team best 38.3% from downtown.

Her scoring average was tied for fifth in 3A for points per game and she led the conference in scoring.

The Hawks went 19-6 this season and finished just one game shy of the state tournament, losing to eventual 3A state champion, Center Point-Urbana.

Along with her scoring, Merschman also grabbed 166 rebounds and blocked 21 shots to lead the team while also recording over two steals per game.

She and freshman Malarie Ross, who averaged 10.9 points per game this year, are the only returning starters from this year’s team.
