Roberta M. Sandbothe, 92, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 11:29 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the West Point Care Center. She was born on May 6, 1933 in Greenbay Township, IA to Louis J. & Lela M. Smalley Witte. She married Frederic W. Sandbothe on June 6, 1953 at St. Mary’s Church in Fort Madison. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1988. She worked for over 40 years at Farmers Savings Bank in Wever and also served on its board of directors. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband, making quilts, playing bingo, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, traveling, reading and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She volunteered her time as a bookkeeper and bingo caller at the Newberry Center, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a poll worker for Lee County and sold tickets for the Tri-State Rodeo.
Roberta is survived by: 4-children: Pamela (David) Lamb of Fort Madison, IA, Stephen (Nancy) Sandbothe of Fort Madison, IA, Julie Sandbothe of Fort Madison, IA & Cynthia (Carl) Renstrom of Wever, IA; 6-grandchildren: John Sandbothe of Huxley, IA, Wendy Flori of The Colony, TX, Jessica Chickering of Eldon, IA, Heather Lamb of Richfield, MN, Clarissa Renstrom of Wever, IA & Christopher Renstrom of Wever, IA; 10-great grandchildren & 3-great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, 1-sister, Ruth Marie Ertz, 4-brothers, Edward, Frank, Harold & Robert Witte.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory.
