Severe thunderstorms made their way through the Tri-State Area on Thursday night, and a tornado warning was issued in Keokuk until 7:30 pm.

The high winds knocked off tree limbs and also uprooted entire trees, causing damages to local parks, businesses and residences.

Alliant Energy reported that around 5,800 customers were without power as of 9 pm on Thursday night and they would be working throughout the night to get power back up and running.

As of Friday morning there were residents still without power due to damage caused by the storm.

The National Weather Service announced that 27 tornadoes were reported and damage was caused across the state.
