January red meat production drops 5%

Commercial red meat production during January was 4.56.1 billion pounds, falling 5% on the year. Processing slowdowns were an issue in some areas and the January 2021 numbers were still slightly skewed by processors clearing up backlogs of animals caused by the pandemic. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock in northern Delaware. U.S. ethanol production and supply both moved modestly higher last week. The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 1.024 million barrels a day, up 15,000 on the week and 366,000 on the year.
