Avian influenza continues to spread in May

The USDA says as of Friday, there are now 283 poultry flocks affected by highly-pathogenic avian influenza scattered across 32 states. Arkansas update: 82% corn and 57% rice planted

More ideal weather conditions are helping Arkansas farmers play catch up. Eighty-two percent of the corn crop has been planted, 9 points behind both last year and 6 points behind the 5-year average. Tennessee update: 64% corn and 19% soybeans planted

Improved weather conditions helped Tennessee farmers plant a lot of acres in a short period of time.  Corn is 64% planted, now 10 points behind last year’s pace and 8% behind the 5-year average.  Twenty-five percent of the crop has emerged. Minnesota planting progress improves, but remains well behind normal

Warmer and drier weather allowed Minnesota farmers to pick up the planting pace last week. USDA’s latest crop progress report says nine percent of corn is planted, compared to nearly 50 percent a year ago and the five-year average of 81 percent. Rain slows NE planting, provides drought relief

Weak Chinese dairy demand makes economist nervous
