Drought in Kansas hurting winter wheat growth, condition

The drought in Kansas has stunted winter wheat growth. According to USDA’s latest crop progress and condition report, 34 percent crop has jointed and that’s 13 percent behind last year and 10 percent behind the five-year average. Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in three more states.  The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the virus in a commercial layer chicken flock in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a non-commercial backyard flock in Utah County, Utah, and two non-commercial backyard flocks in Idaho.
