Matthew Welch/AMC (LOS ANGELES) — As Andrew Lincoln prepares to exit AMC’s The Walking Dead, Jon Bernthal, who played former police officer Shane Walsh during the show’s first two seasons, is set to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It’ll be a neat trick, given that Bernthal’s character dies at the end of season two. Details on how The Walking Dead’s producers and writers plan to bring Bernthal back have yet to be revealed, but the most likely scenario would be a flashback.
Bernthal’s return, however, would likely be brief: his current starring role on Netflix’s The Punisher, in which he plays Frank Castle, reportedly limits how many episodes he could appear in on TWD. Word is, three would be the maximum.
Season nine of The Walking Dead premieres on AMC this fall.
