In the wake of full-scale production beginning recently at the Iowa Fertilizer Plant in Wever, management has made an announcement regarding some of the procedures that will ensue. According to the plant’s parent company OCI, emissions from some of the vents will produce an orange colored vapor for a couple of days. The orange emission comes as the result of urea ammonium nitrate production and the gas is completely harmless. The IFC has stated that it is working closely with the DNR and all emissions are both expected and permitted. The IFC also announced that Wednesdays at 10AM the plant will be testing its primary and internal alarms. While the alarms may currently be audible to nearby residents, the plant is working to reduce the frequency and volume of these alarms, according to the IFC press release.
