Saddle Club Set to Return to Keokuk

At the Keokuk City Council meeting Thursday it was announced that the Keokuk Saddle Club would be returning to town. The council approved of a 1 dollar lease with the saddle club for 99 years regarding a 5 acre plot of land at Joyce Park on the north end of Keokuk. Theresa Murray serves as the president of the Keokuk Saddle Club and she expressed that the plan for the club is to build a 30 thousand dollar horse arena on the land which would be one of the best in the tri-states area. The club currently has 1 third of that cost available from the 2004 sale of club’s prior location where the Hampton Inn in Keokuk is currently located. In March the Joyce Park commission approved of the lease and the project. Incorporated in 1943, the Keokuk Saddle Club had moved to rotating its monthly shows between Argyle, Farmington, and the Lee county fairgrounds since 2004.
