It’s taken 12 years to bring one of the richest potash mines in the U.S. online after being shuttered in the late ‘80s. But, the Michigan project still could be three years away from completion.
Ward Forquer with the Michigan Potash & Salt Company tells Brownfield having a domestic fertilizer supply can’t come soon enough.
“We won’t have to worry about the reliance so much from foreign entities,” he says.
The central Michigan mines, operated by Mosaic in the ‘80s, were closed in favor of their Canadian facility which at the time produced 10 times more product.
