$2 million awarded for farmland preservation programs

Two million dollars have been granted to Michigan farmland preservation efforts across the state.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Michigan Agricultural Preservation Fund Board have announced seven grants this year will help preserve more than 1,100 acres of farmland.

Counties receiving grants include Ottawa, Washtenaw, Macomb, Eaton, Barry, and Berrien.

The funds help farmers with up to 75 percent of the costs related to development rights and creating permanent agricultural conservation easements.
