Consumers concerned about avian influenza outbreaks

Sixty percent of consumers are concerned about the impact of highly pathogenic avian influenza on food prices, according to a recent survey.

Agriculture Economist Jayson Lusk says the goal of Purdue University’s latest Consumer Food Insights Report was to gauge consumer concerns on the impact of the virus.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza is often fatal in chickens and turkeys and can spread rapidly within flocks. There have been more than 30 million losses due to the virus.
