MO FFA names star award winners at convention

The State Star Farmer in Missouri says it takes flexibility and determination to be profitable in a time of high input costs.

Ashley Sjostrand from Ashland raises laying hens and broilers for the community and a local restaurant. She also has cattle and market hogs and says feed prices have been high.

“I do an exchange of labor with my parents. I work on their hog operation in exchange for them giving me feed, soybean meal or corn, which helps my books stay balanced.”

She plans to keep up with her Supervised Agricultural Experience as she attends the University of Missouri-Columbia in the fall, majoring in animal science and minoring in agribusiness.
