Caring. Honest. Hard-working. These terms were just a few we encountered among the nominations sent in on the behalf of popular Keokuk resident Sarah Neal. “The Marty Award” was the vision of the Hall Family and family friend Marc Johnson, to honor those in our community who gave selflessly as Marty Hall did. Giving in the form of time, compassion, selflessness, kind words, or even just a smile. Leah Jones of Radio Keokuk was not surprised when the nominations for Sarah came in.

“Sarah Neal personifies these traits in a way that seems effortless. I’ve been told many times over the years that Marty never knew a stranger. Truer words could not be said about Sarah. It’s a truly special thing when you meet someone who’s just doing their job. But they do so so exceptionally and consistently over the years that they not only leaving a lasting impression, they become a friend”.

Among the nominations for Sarah was praise from her long time employeer Doug Matlick. Sarah has worked for Mr. Matlick at the Hawkeye restaurant for over a dozen years, not only bringing her smile and energy to her job, but spreading that joy to countless customers over the years. Long time customers come in anticipating an meal with an amazing waitress that makes them feel like family. New customers leave feeling they may have just made a new friend that you felt like you’ve known all along.

When contacted upon her award nomination, Mr. Matlick was very happy for Sarah. “We have realy enjoyed having her work for us over the years. She is an asset to our business. Sarah is a very sweet and caring person”!

That sweet and caring nature inspired many upon her nominations, with words showing how she has inspired and given to others:

“She is an inspiration to me and tons of people. She is the most caring person I have ever met”.

“She is honest to a T, if you need someone to have your back, she is there. She has helped who knows how many people though what ever tough situation they are battling”.

“Sarah is one of the funniest people I have ever met. She can light up a room and know ever one there”.

While Ms Neal was shocked into complete surprise at the honor of being given this award, so very many are not. Touching people’s lives for the better in what may seem like small ways over the course of time makes a lasting and meaningful impact, just as Marty Hall did. Radio Keokuk, Lucky’s Pub & Grub, Marc Johnson and the Hall Family are very honored to bestow this month’s Marty Award to Ms. Sarah Neal.
