Lee County residents looking to safely and responsibly dispose of unnecessary prescription pills have an opportunity at the end of this month. The Lee County Sheriff’s office will be taking back unwanted prescription pills and patches on April 29th from 10AM to 2PM as part of a program in conjunction with the DEA. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked but states that syringes, liquids, or sharps cannot be accepted. This is the 13th opportunity for residents to rid themselves of the prescriptions in the last 7 years but the first since October 2016. On that date more than 266 tons of drugs were turned in throughout the country. Residents interested are encouraged to visit the DEA Diversion website or bring prescriptions to the Sheriff’s office April 29th.
