Betty Stuckwisch, 81, of Warsaw, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Aug. 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous nine-month battle with brain cancer.
Born July 8, 1944, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Leland and Maxine (Bossler) Sherrill, Betty lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and a profoundly generous spirit.
A 1962 graduate of Hamilton High School, Betty went on to build a strong work ethic and lasting relationships through her early roles at Thomas Truck and Caster Co. in Keokuk, and later at Security State Bank in Hamilton, Illinois. Over the decades, she became known for her dedication and the kindness she extended to everyone she met in the workplace.
Above all, Betty was devoted to her family. She shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Harold, and found her greatest joy in their son, Kevin, who was the light of her life. Their close-knit family, though small, was filled with immense love, unwavering loyalty, and a deep sense of pride. Betty gave selflessly to her loved ones, always putting their needs before her own.
Betty enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – passing time on her iPad, catching up with family during afternoon luncheons, and spending time with Harold. Whether attending Harold’s band performances, socializing with friends, cooking together, working in their yard, or enjoying quiet evenings at home, Betty treasured every moment with her husband, life-long partner, and best friend.
Betty entered hospice care in January 2025 and was cared for at her son’s home in Noblesville, Indiana, where she received the tender attention of her son Kevin and his family, as well as the devoted caregivers of IU Health Hospice for the past seven months. Throughout her illness, Betty’s strength and indomitable spirit never waned. Affectionately named “Badass Betty” by those who cared for her, she inspired them all with her determination, resilience, and unwavering will.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, Maxine and Leland, her stepfather Robert Symmonds, and her sisters, Bonnie Munson and Barbara Ross. She is survived by her son, Kevin (Barbara) Stuckwisch, her two grandchildren, her sister Heidi Wilson of Hamilton, Illinois, and her many nieces and nephews and their families. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the nurses, the physical therapists, the volunteers who drove Betty to her chemotherapy appointments, and to all the friends and neighbors who visited and sent her cards and well wishes.
Betty’s warmth, compassion, and love will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 to 3 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Warsaw Brewery. A short service will be held at 12 pm, followed by the band Blue Tye Affair, a meal and a cash bar.
