Memorial Day weekend marked one of the first big holidays for the arts in Keokuk. However, at the end of last week there was an air of anxiety hanging over many of the festivities organizers and it came at the hands of Mother Nature. Forecasts for the weekend called for high percentage chances of rain throughout but fortunately Memorial Day weekend featured some of the nicest weather of 2017. Festivities kicked off Friday night with the back alley band festival and Mainstreet Keokuk Director Joyce Glasscock was thrilled with both the weather and the attendance.

Saturday morning the Power City Alley Cat Bicycle rally took place and race coordinator Chuck Pietscher was happy with the turnout as more than 30 people signed up for the family-themed grand meander. Saturday night the first installment of the Rand Park Pavilion Concert series featured Irish-rock band Flannigan’s Right Hook. Pavilion Commission council member and event organizer Annette Peevler stated that right up until the day of the concert it looked like it may be moved indoors.
