Carolyn Marie Shallenberger

Carolyn Marie Shallenberger, 81, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Carolyn was born August 24, 1942, the daughter of Victor and Goldie (Land) Hewitt in Keokuk, Iowa.  On August 24, 1963, she was united in marriage to Herbert Shallenberger at his home in Hamilton.  Carolyn had cleaned many area businesses and churches including the Nauvoo Inn and Suites, and the Christian, Baptist and Methodist churches in Hamilton.  She enjoyed tea parties, genealogy and gardening, especially flowers.  Her greatest joy, however, came from her family and especially her grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Little Grandma”.

Carolyn is survived by three daughters, Wendy (John) Ikerd of Elvaston, Shawn (Kevin) Boone of Sturgis, Michigan, and Cindy (Calvin) Anderson of Burlington; grandchildren, Dawn (Jody) Johnson, Christina Ikerd, Bradley Ikerd, Andrew Boone, Jennifer Boone, Ashley Boone, Amber (Ryan) Hanson, Kyle (Kelsey) Sherburne, Joe (Morgan) Sherburne and Nicolas (Tia) Sherburne; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Richard (Suzy) Hewitt of Keokuk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert; and siblings, Norma Brooks, Ray Hewitt and Mary Hewitt.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow in Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 7:00 Wednesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  Memorials may be directed to the family of Carolyn Shallenberger to be used for the Keokuk Garden Club.  Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
