USDA is Providing $130 Million in Assistance to Help Farmers Facing Financial Risk

WASHINGTON, May 1, 2023 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that nearly $130 million in additional, automatic financial assistance has been obligated for qualifying farm loan program borrowers who are facing financial risk. The announcement is part of the $3.1 billion to help distressed farm loan borrowers that was provided through Section 22006 of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

A dust storm limited visibility for farmers and motorists near Montgomery County Illinois on Monday. Illinois State Police say winds blew freshly worked soil from nearby fields causing zero visibility in the area. Planting in Kentucky continues to run ahead of average page

Planting pace for Kentucky’s crops is running ahead of last year and the 5-year average. The corn crop is 52% planted, compared to the previous year at 24%, and the 5-year average of 36% with 24% of the crop emerged.  Soybeans are 27% planted compared to 11% last year and the 5-year average of 12%. Planting progress for Tennessee crops ahead of average pace
