A South Dakota farmer says it’s dry, but they’re planting small grains. Mike Cronin’s family farms near Gettysburg in central South Dakota. He says his son wrapped up planting small grains Thursday. “We’ve got, I don’t know, probably 18-hundred acres of spring wheat in and then he was going to plant about 400 acres of oats.”
Cronin says there is some hope for rain in the forecast. “It looks like we may get some moisture but I don’t know, probably about half an inch, but every little bit helps.”
The forecast calls for cool 40-degree temperatures, and Cronin says until the soil temperatures come up, there won’t be any corn going in his planter.
