Delight (Ferguson) Inman

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Delight Inman, who left us on May 14, 2025, at the age of 91. She passed away in Omaha, Nebraska.

Born on December 28, 1933, in Promise City, Iowa, Delight grew up in a warm and loving household surrounded by her ten brothers and sisters. Her original legal name was Roma Delight. Since her father preferred the name Delight, family and friends called her Delight from an early age which stuck for the rest of her life. Her family relocated to a farm in Downing, Missouri, where many hours were dedicated to managing dairy cows and other livestock.

After graduating from high school, Delight moved to Keokuk, Iowa where she resided most of her adult life. On October 31, 1953, she married Norman Inman of Keokuk, Iowa at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Together they raised five children and were married sixty-seven years.

Delight was a multi-talented seamstress, designing and sewing a variety of children’s clothing, suits, wedding dresses, stuffed toys, and Halloween costumes. She gardened alongside her husband. They grew every kind of vegetable and had a large strawberry patch. However, Delight’s passion was growing flowers. The yard and house were filled with roses, peonies, irises, geraniums, and herbs.

Delight was a life-long advocate of exercise. She exercised daily from walking, lifting light weights, Tai Chi, yoga, calisthenics, and water aerobics. Her lifelong balance and strength led health professionals to ask if she was a professional athlete or dancer in her younger years.

She had an enormous love for her nine great-grandchildren. She was the first to join them in a game on the floor. She chased them in the yard, swung them in swings, and comforted them in times of sadness.

Delight was preceded in death by her father Loren Ferguson; mother Etha McMurry Ferguson; husband Norman Inman; brothers Kenneth, James, Robert, Carol, Donald, Lyle, and Garry; and sisters Ruth and Lois.

Delight is survived by one brother, five children, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. Her surviving brother is Earl Ferguson of Quincy, Illinois. Children include Martha Paige of Omaha, Nebraska; Michael Inman of Keokuk, Iowa; Diane Inman of Omaha, Nebraska; Mark Inman (Lisa) of San Antonio, Texas; and Richard Inman (Megan) of Des Moines, Iowa. Grandchildren include David Paige (Kanyaphat) of Jeju City, South Korea; Nicole Rosenthal (Adam) of Omaha, Nebraska; Amber Riley (Travis) of New Prague, Minnesota; Alexandria Peters (Jason) of San Antonio, Texas; Lauren Voshell (Dakota) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Hunter Inman (Amanda) of San Antonio, Texas; Dakotah Inman of San Antonio, Texas; Nicole Inman of San Antonio, Texas; Murphy Boley (Colton) of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Tyler Inman of Atlanta, Georgia; and soon to be born a baby girl of Des Moines, Iowa.

A celebration of Delight’s life will be held at 1 pm on May 31, 2025, at All Saints Church in Keokuk, Iowa with graveside services following the mass at Oakland Cemetery. In Delight’s honor, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Lung Association in lieu of flowers.
