Despite Stephen Colbert’s ratings rise, NBC exec has faith in Jimmy Fallon

Andrew Lipovsky/NBC(BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.) —  The host of CBS’ The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, has ridden his nightly skewering of Donald Trump to a rating bonanza. Just this week, CBS announced that The Late Show had topped its late night rivals by its largest margin since the show’s premiere, winning the weekly ratings among late-night shows for a second straight week.

So is NBC worried about its late-night franchise, The Tonight Show, and host Jimmy Fallon, who’s taken a mostly non-political stance in the age of Trump?

“I have no concern about it whatsoever,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “Jimmy’s the greatest at what he does.  I think he’s the most multi-talented entertainer for late night.”

Most importantly for Greenblatt is Fallon’s ability to maintain a lead among viewers that advertisers are most interested in — people 18 to 49 years old.

“He’s the undisputed 18 to 49 leader in that demo,” Greenblatt said. “The advertiser demand for him is, you know, as high as it’s ever been.”
